Drill rods must be pretorqued with the minimum recommended make-up torque to preload the box and pin prior to drilling. Drilling torque alone will not make-up the joint. Drilling operating torque should never exceed make-up torque.
• Z-50 Thread Compound is the recommended thread lubricant to reduce wear and the possibility of galling during drilling operations.
• To reduce the friction between the walls of the hole and the drill rod, apply rod grease to the surface of the drill rods.Rod grease also reduces in-hole vibration, increasing tool and equipment service life.

Recommendation:
Make sure to lubricate the threads with grease to prolong the life of the rods and to prevent wear and galling. Special thread lubricant is the best.
Check the threads on the drill rods regularly. If the threads are damaged they can damage other rods they are connected to.
If the threading on one rod should get damaged during making of joint, both rods should be replaced.
